Baptism

On the night of the Easter Vigil after the first reading from Genesis, the Church Prays, “O God, who wonderfully created human nature and still more wonderfully redeemed it…”. Baptism is the sacrament to enter into the still more wonderful redemption that Christ has one for us. It is the gateway – or the doors – into life in the Holy Spirit (Catechism of the Catholic Church, Paragraph 1213). Through baptism we are called to become great saints!

At Most Precious Blood Catholic Parish, we do not just desire your child to placed on a sacramental conveyor belt as if the church were a retail store or a sacramental factory, we desire to welcome you into the living breathing organism of the church that is the body of Christ. We desire to welcome your child into the shared life of authentic communion of the parish. Therefore, we will ask you to take three easy steps to prepare for your child’s baptism

To get started please contact: Suzi Savich @303.756.3083 or ssavich@mpbdenver.org

Steps of Baptism Preparation

Step 1: Meeting of Welcome

    1. Your story
    2. The process of Baptism
    3. Necessary paperwork for your file, (including)
      i) A copy of your child’s Birth Certificate
ii) The Godparent Form attesting, from the Godparent’s pastor, his/her practice of the Catholic faith.
iii) And a Registration Form attesting to your own sacramental communion with the Church.

Please be aware that our baptismal weekends are often fully scheduled anywhere from 5-7 months out from any given month.

At Most Precious Blood Infant and Child Baptisms (under 7 years old) are celebrated with our faith community during Mass on the second full (Saturday and Sunday) weekend of the month at 4:30 pm on Saturday and at the 9:00 am and 10:45 am Masses on Sunday. Please note that no Baptism will be held during the Season of Lent, beginning with Ash Wednesday.

Children not baptized prior to their 7th birthday will be fully initiated into the church, celebrating the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and First Eucharist in the same celebration. For families with children over the age of 7 who are not yet baptized and are looking to begin the faith formation and sacramental preparation process, please contact Mary Pott, Director of Faith Formation, at mpott@mpbdenver.org.

Those who are over 18 and seek to be baptized in the Church, do so through the RCIA process (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults). This is a combined formation program that seeks to connect individuals to the parish community while simultaneously teaching them the basic of our Catholic faith and preparing them to receive not only Baptism, but Confirmation and Eucharist as well (normally celebrated together at the Annual Easter Vigil).

For those who wish to know more about becoming Catholic, please contact Tony Haas at the parish offices (303.756.3083).

The first of the seven sacraments, and the “door” which gives access to the other sacraments. Baptism is the first and chief sacrament of forgiveness of sins because it unites us with Christ, who died for our sins and rose for our justification. Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist constitute the “sacraments of initiation” by which a believer receives the remission of original and personal sin, begins a new life in Christ and the Holy Spirit, and is incorporated into the Church, the Body of Christ.
