On behalf of the Most Precious Blood Community, may we express our joy and congratulations on your upcoming wedding celebration!  We hope it will be very meaningful, joy-filled experience for you.

As Pastor of Most Precious Blood Catholic Community, it is my assumption that couples who come to this Church to celebrate their weddings, do so to express their faith and spirituality as well as their feelings for one another. That is to say, that I expect that they are here to express their feelings of love, not just for one another, but for God and their faith community as well.

Most Precious Blood provides classes for couples seeking to fulfill the requirements of marriage prep as outlined by the Archdiocese of Denver.

If you are a member of Most Precious Blood, your paperwork will be filed through MPB by Tony Haas.

If you are not a member of Most Precious Blood, your paperwork will be completed and filed by your parish of registration and we will simply mail a certificate of completion to that parish. It will be your responsibility to make contact with your parish priest or marriage coordinator to complete your paperwork. Please view the tabs below for more detailed information.

Questions to Ask Before Seeking Marriage Preparation at Most Precious Blood

  1. Do I (or we as a couple) genuinely seek a sacramental marriage that is both recognized and blessed by the church or are we “going through the motions” to please another be it God, our parents, the church?
  2. Am I willing to fully engage in the process of marriage preparation with an openness to learning all I can about myself, my fiancé and our relationship?
  3. Do I desire to be an active participant in my faith or am I only “dropping in” for a wedding, without a genuine interest in a marriage that is lived in the context of the parish community?
  4. Can I honestly and authentically claim my faith as my own and am I living it out in the best way I can?

If you answered yes to these questions, please continue on to the next set of questions.  If you answered no to these questions, contact Tony Haas to discuss marriage preparation at MPB.

  1. Have I been a registered member of MPB or another parish for at least 6 months?
  2. Do I engage my faith life on a regular basis?
  3. Is my expected wedding date at least 8 months in the future? (The Archdiocese of Denver requires an 8 month preparation period).
  4. Do I want to be married inside a church by a priest?  (The Archdiocese of Denver does not give dispensations for “destination weddings”).
  5. Am I seeking a blessing of a civil marriage? (If so, we ask that you go through marriage preparation and observe the 8 month preparation period.)
  6. I would like do marriage prep at MPB and get married at another church by another priest or deacon.  Is the priest (and/or church) marrying me able to verify my registration and active participation in that parish?
  7. Am I available to attend all 5 evenings of marriage preparation classes, knowing that make-up sessions are not offered?

If you answered yes to these questions, please feel free to read further about our upcoming classes. To sign up for classes, contact Tony Haas either by email thaas@mpbdenver.org, or call him at 303-756-308.  If you answered no, please contact Tony Haas by email thaas@mpbdenver.org, or call him at 303-756-3083.

MPB Marriage Preparation Check List

The Marriage Preparation Process is a multiphase process that prepares couples for marriage that stretches over eight months. The purpose of the preparation is to facilitate conversation for the engaged couple and to help the couple develop and maintain skills for creating a healthy and loving married relationship. The eight month process allows for those skills to soak in and take root within the relationship.

Phase I: Initial Meeting.

Initial meeting with Tony Haas, where the paperwork to be married within the Roman Catholic Church is filled out. Frequently couples need to return paperwork to in order to complete their marriage file. These include the MB Form-Freedom to Marry Testimony for both the bride and the groom; and proof of baptism. For those who were baptized in the Roman Catholic Church this requires contacting the parish where you were baptized and having them send you an “Updated Baptismal Record” –it seems like a strange request, but don’t worry, they will know what you are talking about when you call. The information on the Update Baptismal Record is more than just a copy of the original baptismal certificate, the original baptismal certificate is not acceptable for the marriage file for Catholics. For those baptized in another Christian denomination a copy of the original baptismal certificate is acceptable.

Phase II: Marriage Preparation Seminar

This seminar runs for 5 consecutive weeks in September and in January. Cost of the class is $200.

a. Wednesdays (August 29-Sept 26, 2018) from 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m.

b. Wednesdays (Jan 9-Feb 6, 2019) from 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m.

Phase III: FOCCUS Inventory and Natural Family Planning (NFP) Class

Once the Marriage Prep Seminar is completed couples will be sent a link via email to take the FOCCUS Inventory. There is a $30 processing fee for the inventory. Once the inventory is completed the results will be sent to Jeanie Engelbert, who will contact you to set up an appointment to go over the results. This is not a test to determine whether you are compatible, but a tool to help you understand your strengths and challenges as a couple (and every couple has both), and to continue to develop the skills for a lifelong healthy marriage.

Natural Family Planning classes can be found on the Archdiocesan website: www.archden.org/eflm/nfp. There are several options listed on the website. It takes several months to complete these classes, so please plan accordingly. Once this class is completed you will receive a certificate of completion that needs to be returned to Tony and will be included in your marriage file.
