Faith & Racial Equity: Exploring Power & Privilege Module

“Faith & Racial Equity: Exploring Power & Privilege” is an 8-week course that awakens groups to the economic systems, public policies, cultural norms, and hidden biases that empower some and oppress others.

We’ll introduce a framework for understanding and recognizing racial disparities by looking at power and privilege and how they contribute to racial injustice. Later sessions will take a deeper dive into specific issues related to power and privilege, including affirmative action, lack of equal access to educational opportunities, disparities within the criminal justice system, and powerful biases in media representation.

The Faith & Racial Equity Module will be offered:
Tuesday Evenings 6:00 PM-8:30 PM
MPB / RCIA Room
Jan 7 – Feb 25
Tuition: $50 (scholarships available)
This is a small group opportunity so early registration is recommended. Module information: https://tinyurl.com/MPBF-EFlyer or check the flyer in the Gathering Space

More Families to Sponsor for Christmas

A local St Vincent dePaul ministry has reached out to us at MPB to help them sponsor families for Christmas. The previous sponsor of the group of families was not able to fulfill their commitment this year. Can you help? Here are the details:

🎄10-15 families need sponsors

🎄 Families are close to MPB- Ellis and Slavens Elementary Neighborhood

🎄All gifts are to be delivered by sponsor to their home on Sat., Dec 21

🎄If you are interested, contact Ann and include your email, phone, and size of family you’re interested in sponsoring.

Hope for the Holidays!

You can send a message of support to someone who is locked behind immigrant detention bars this holiday season. A card and candy bar will be given to each person who is detained in the Aurora GEO Detention Center. This is a powerful way to remind people they matter, they are not forgotten and we do care about them.

There are important specific details for making the cards so that they fit the detention center guidelines. Please check the specifics at https://tinyurl.com/CasaH4H19 or in the Welcome Center. This video provides the story behind the cards https://tinyurl.com/casacards18

Cards can be completed and dropped off to the office or at the back of church by Monday, Dec 9. Contact Ann with questions. Sponsored by MPB Justice Matters Ministry

Music and Stories from the Margins Building Bridges of Compassion

If you missed the amazing evening we shared on Nov. 15, you have a chance to experience this event. We are fortunate to have had John Peterson capture the music, stories and dance on video. Please join in the RCIA room for a community viewing and discussion of the performance and experience on Sunday, Dec 15 from 12:00-2:00pm.

During this viewing, you will experience the stories of those who have been marginalized in our society, along with music, dance and prayer to deepen the experience and open our hearts to compassion.

If you have any questions contact Teresa tstone@mpbdenver.org or Ann Zimmer azimmer@mpbdenver.org

For those who were in attendance, we ask you to please take 5 minutes to complete our feedback form at tinyurl.com/MPBstories. Your input is appreciated and valued.

Thank you for Providing a Great Thanksgiving for so many.

The Family to Family Thanksgiving ministry was a huge success again thanks to so many. Bags were filled to the brim with wonderful meal items for the recipients at Tapiz, North Lincoln and Sacred Heart neighborhood, along with moms and families at Sacred Heart House and Birthline. Over 240 bags were distributed. To top off the food items many of you added the personal touch of wonderful Thanksgiving card. A hearty team of 20+ folks showed up to deliver bags to the seniors and then enjoy a pizza lunch with them.

MPB School families contributed over $3,000 worth of gift cards so that families at Guardian Angel, St Therese and St Rose of Lima can shop for their favorite foods for Thanksgiving.

All in all, your thoughtfulness and generosity brightened so many lives through this ministry. Thank you for being the hands and feet of Christ.
